In racquetball, the server has a huge advantage over the receiver. The server can hit the ball from a fixed position into a very large area of the court. The server also has the advantage of being in the front of the court and can take advantage of any weak returns.

The serve receiver must try to retake the center court position by forcing the opponent into the back court. Accomplish this by hitting ceiling balls or passing shots.

To return serve, Cliff Swain recommends to

  1. Take a position in center court which is an arms length and a racquet from the back wall.
  2. Get into a ready athletic stance on the balls of your feet.
  3. Hold the racquet with a backhand grip.
  4. Move with two steps to reach either side wall.
